In case the news has not reached you, I learned this-evening that Mr Victor May has died at the age of 91 and his funeral will be at Guildford Crematorium at 10.30 am on Thursday 21st May 2009.
The OG website confirms this sad news and shows a photo of Mr May at a reunion of OGs during the summer of 2008.
Mr May also attended the OG reunion at Godalming College on October 18th 2008 and seemed happy to be there, but he was very frail and was unfortunateley unable to stay very long.
I personally appreciated his teaching of mathematics in the early 1950s.
He joined the staff at Godalming CGS in 1947 and - apart from a 3-year period when I believe he was in Africa - he returned and taught again at Godalming until his retirement in 1979.
After his retirement Mr May remained domiciled close to the school, and he became one of the most faithful members of the OGA.
His family has suggested that, in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League, Haig House, 199 Borough High Street, London SE1 1AA, England.
(In Oz this is The Returned and Services League of Australia Ltd.)
